10,000 Maniacs 'In My Tribe'

For some unknown reason, I forgot to tell you about the great and not-so-great movies that I’ve watched from Netflix.

First up in the great department… Little Miss Sunshine. This film received 5 stars from me, baby! It has everything! It will make you laugh, it can cause you to shed a tear, and there’s even something to disgust you.

Little Miss Sunshine is about a very dysfunctional family led by a father who wants to be the next self-help guru. The family is on the brink of a full financial collapse because he’s following his dream. The smallest of the family, a little girl named Olive, makes her way into a beauty pageant. They all come together and travel to where the pageant is being held. As dysfunctional as they may be, they manage to work together and discover what the word “family” really means.

The disgusting part involves the beauty pageant where little girls are tarted up like 2 dollar whores. This is no joke, I became physically revolted when I saw those little girls wearing make-up and bikinis. I felt the same way when I saw Jon Benet-Ramsey’s picture when her death made national news. Those pageants are no more than legal kiddie porn and I found those scenes quite revolting. Why anyone would want to do that to little girls is beyond me.

Rent or buy Little Miss Sunshine. You won’t be disappointed.

Zach Braff (from TV’s Scrubs) is a guy who is engaged to a wonderful woman. While attending a wedding, another woman approaches him and he does the unthinkable, he gets her phone number. He realizes that seeing the new Miss Hottie isn’t what he wants, but it’s too late. He gets caught in his lies and the wonderful woman dumps him even before he dips his wick in the other girl.

As Brad says, the guys are all pretty much whiny guys, but I enjoyed the film nonetheless. It received 5 stars from me, baby.

Today I watched Gridiron Gang. The film breaks no new ground, it’s simply a based-on-a-true-story kind of flick that warms the heart. And you know what? I really dug it!

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson turns in a fine performance as a juvenile detention officer that’s tired of turning kids back out on the streets where they either end up dead or in prison for life. He turns them onto football. And the lessons learned gives the kids self-esteem and arms them with the power of seeking out success instead of being a lifelong loser.

I gave Gridiron Gang 4 out of 5 stars.

The last one is called Employee Of The Month. It stars comedian Dane Cook (I’ve never thought of his standup as funny) and Jessica “stick legs” Simpson. Yes, I’ve never thought of her as “hot”.

The movie goes on and on and on. I toyed with the idea of turning the damn thing off all through its 148 minutes, but I couldn’t do it. I kept thinking that there was something, anything of value as the clock ticked off the minutes. I found nothing.

Employee Of The Month is a complete waste of time. Do not bother with this film!
