Aerosmith ‘Done With Mirrors’

Here as of late, Netflix hasn’t throttled me. You see, Netflix says that you can “get as many movies as you want” but when they receive them, they will hold them an extra business day. They do impose limits to those of us that perform quick turnaround in order to keep up their profits. And since they control the flow of movies, it’s called “throttling”.

I received four discs in the mail the other day and I haven’t had a whole lot of time to watch them.

First up… Pride And Prejudice starring Keira Knightley. As I understand it, it’s from a “classic” book and there have been other movies made before this one. While feeling like the film was getting a little boring, I pressed the time display button on my remote and found that I was past my 20-minute cutoff.

I have a rule… If I’m bored within 20 minutes, it’s off and deemed unacceptable.

Within 40 minutes, I found myself doing laundry and therefore turned that joker off. I put it back into its envelope to send back.

If it had failed the 20-minute test, it would have received only one star on the Netflix scale. But since it went 40 minutes, I gave it two stars meaning that I didn’t like it.

That one ran just over 2 hours. The other movie that I watched was Memoirs Of A Geisha and that one also was over the 2 hour mark.

I labored through Memoirs and decided to give it three stars because of the lush cinematography. Although I didn’t like the story, I’ll give props for the art of the cinema.

I also learned that Geishas are not prostitutes. So everything that I ever learned from American movies and television was wrong. I am clearly putting the blame on M*A*S*H for my ignorance.

The other movie is still waiting on me. It’s the latest from Steven Spielberg called Munich. I keep putting it off because the film clocks in around 2 hours and 45 minutes. My friend Christine said that she feels that it’s an hour too long.

I haven’t had a whole lot of time to get those long flicks out of the way in order to get my Buffy The Vampire Slayer season 7 on. I am kind of excited about getting every season of Buffy out of the way. Then I can move on to the new version of Battlestar Galactica.

Christine and my friend Sean Whitley have been praising that show so I’m more than interested at the possibility of getting hooked.

I like watching TV shows on DVD. You can line everything up and watch when you want. It’s all about instant gratification. And it’s like one long-ass movie!

I’m pretty excited about season one of Wild, Wild West coming out on DVD June 6th. I can’t wait to turn my nephew Preston onto that show. I’ve already explained it to him and he seems quite receptive to the idea.

When I was a kid, I watched that show every weekday on Channel 2. I pretended to be James West and I SO wanted some leather chaps like my hero. I tried to attach things up my sleeves, under my pants legs, and inside my jackets. Just like James West, I wanted to be able to pull things from inside my clothes in order to make my escape. I also wanted to take my boot heels off and make secret compartments for things. I just couldn’t get my father to comply with my wishes.

I’m kind of hoping for the show to have the same effect on my nephew.

And for the record, NO! I will never show him the horrible updated movie starring Will Smith. I have never seen it and I never will. The fact that Will Smith is playing Jim West is too sacrilegious for true fans of the show and to anyone that has a working knowledge of history.

Don’t EVEN get me started on how Dr. Lovelace was portrayed.

Oh! And don't forget... The last episode EVER of Malcolm In The Middle will be on Sunday night at 8:30 just after The Simpsons. We learn of Malcolm's destiny and if you care about me... You'll watch it.

    1. 'Pride and Prejudice" was a fantastic movie - witty, touching and thoroughly entertaining, not to mention visually beautiful. You didn't like it cuz you is ignorant.

    2. 'Memoirs of a Geisha' was indeed a beautiful film, but it was emotionally lackluster. I only rated it as highly as I did because I was already so emotionally involved with the characters from reading the (phenomonal) book that it was a joy to see them come to life.

    3. You will be forever grateful to Sean and I for turning you on to 'Battlestar Galactica.'

    4. You iz still ignorant.
