Cheap Trick 'Woke Up With A Monster'

All right!

I’ve complained about The Office. I’ve vented my frustrations on how I never really understood or even liked the show. I’ve even made comments about my hatred for the character Michael Scott. I continued watching the show because a lot of friends and coworkers that I respect and admire love the show. There had to be something of redeeming quality in the show called The Office.

After watching the last six episodes of season 2 (watched them online at Netflix.com)… I have found it. There was no bolt of lightning. There was no clap of thunder. There was no light bulb illuminating the vast space between my ears. It was just there… All thanks going to the character of Dwight Schrute.

He’s the “Frank Burns” that holds The Office together. He’s the guy that everyone can’t stand. He’s the guy that’s the butt of all the jokes. He’s the guy that takes his job way too seriously. Dwight Schrute is the Frank Burns of the 00’s.

For those of you that do not know… Frank Burns is a character on M*A*S*H. And I must say this… “Frank Burns eats worms.”

That’s a quote from the show that sticks with me to this very day. If someone mentions the character of Frank Burns… I always say that.

But I digress…

I’ve come around to The Office by way of watching M*A*S*H on TV Land. Oh sure, M*A*S*H had more memorable characters that lent themselves to followings of their own… I’m just starting to see the Dwight Schrute angle on The Office.

I even rated the show with 4 out of 5 stars… So that’s saying something.

--New shows that I’m digging…

Breaking Bad on AMC.

Sure, I thought I’d have a little problem with accepting Bryan Cranston in another role other than Malcolm’s dad from Malcolm In The Middle… Or even the Catholic dentist that switched to Judaism for the jokes on Seinfeld… But it’s amazing what a little facial hair and glasses will do for an actor. Not to mention their talent.

Breaking Bad is a show about a high school chemistry teacher that learns he's living on borrowed time thanks to cancer. He hooks up with a former student that is now a dealer of crystal meth in order to make enough money to take of his family when he dies.

It’s a cool show. I suggest you check it out. Check AMC’s website in case you’re behind and they have them online for your viewing pleasure. And then again, they will probably run an all day marathon of Breaking Bad.

I’ve also been enjoying Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. That show is a lot like the first 2 Terminator movies… It rarely lets up.

I’m also looking forward to Eli Stone.

I’m out folks. Thank you for your patronage.

Oh man! I have not been here in ages! And I don't even have a good excuse, so I will just jump back in like I was never gone.

I got into The Office pretty late too, so I see what you're saying about being underwhelmed at first. It took me a while to warm up to it, but eventually it became one of the shows I never missed. The weird part is that it was "the show I watch when Earl goes off", but then it became "the show I watch while I wait for 30 Rock." But that's a story for another time.

Michael really seems to be a love-or-hate character, but I can't decide which side I fall on. It depends on the episode. But Dwight is great all the time. He's not my favorite, but he's comedy gold! (If you're just on season 2, you have a way to go before you meet him. All I will say is that he is to Dwight as Dwight is to everyone else. Good times!) And now, off to catch up on all that I've missed!
