The Non-Conformist Cult Radio Show 11/09/01

Thanks for checking back from time to time… I know that I haven’t really been updating like I should. Life gets a little busy and hectic sometimes.

Shall we get to business…

For the past 2 years, Rock 92 has gone out and showed support for the “Hit The Bricks” event over at Wake Forest University. It’s a fund raiser for the cancer research fund named in honor of Brian Piccolo (the film Brian’s Song).

One of the contacts that I’ve met is a guy by the name of Mike Ford… He’s a great guy who possesses a tremendous name/face recall. He remembered my name, Weather Dave’s name, and our intern Ashley’s name. I’m totally amazed by that… Because try as I might, it just doesn’t work for me.

As Mike walked off, Dave asked me, “You know who that is, right?”

“What do you mean?” I asked with a question because of my total ignorance of all things collegiate.

As Dave told me… Mike Ford is not only the dude that leads the Office of Student Development… He’s also Michael Gerald Ford!

Yes! He sprang from the loins of a former President of the United States! AND!… His dad was on the Warren Commission. I shook hands with this guy. He remembered my name and he gave me a T-shirt! I had no idea. Yeah… It made me turn into a giddy little girl.

The closest that I had ever been to someone like that was when my Grandmother Clarkson spent a few years as the housekeeper for James Sprouse. He was a lawyer that ran for Governor in West Virginia back in the late 60’s.

--I went to see the Cirque Du Soleil show at the Greensboro Coliseum last night with Kristina. She absolutely loves that stuff… So when I heard that it was coming to town, I immediately got to locating some tickets for us.

I didn’t know what to expect, but I had a small sense of dread. I felt that I wouldn’t like it. And mainly, that was brought on by not knowing anything about Cirque Du Soleil.

All I knew was this… They flip around and do rope tricks while naked. Maybe they’ve never done anything in the nude… But that was what my small mind was telling me.

And keep in mind that I’m not opposed to the nude stuff… Okay?

Bottom line is this… I enjoyed the HELL out of ‘Saltimbanco’. I’m not sure about my interpretation of the show, but then again, that’s subject to everyone’s opinion.

Surprisingly, I had a great time. I enjoyed watching not only the performers, but also the tech people. There’s a lot of hard work that goes into putting on that production. And I loved how they slipped things by the audience. The techs would set up and tear down things without you even realizing it.

And later, as Kristina and I sat over drinks at O’Charley’s… We made a pact to venture out to any other Cirque Du Soleil shows that may show up within 6 hours of Greensboro.

We also spent some time playing Photo Hunt and various trivia games on one of those table top video games. So if you venture over at O’Charley’s off Wendover and feel like you need a challenge… Try to best Stina’s, Estina’s, and Ksims’ scores if you can. We dare ya!
