‘Gall To Eat And Vinegar To Drink’ A mix tape by Brad Kesler

I just got back from getting my yearly shearing. That’s “Eugene speak” for a haircut. My stylist, Ron Norris, lets me get home before I truly turn on the style. I figure that it probably doesn’t look good for his business when I walk out with my hair standing on end, looking all wild. When I got home, I put in the hair gel and blew it dry. Now my shorter hair is standing at attention much like Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens.

It’s out of my eyes and still covers the ears, but the main thing… It’s shorter and it should be much cooler.

I could have used that yesterday, but I waited too long to make an appointment with Ron. So when Tyler (our intern) and I had a van hit over at the Quality Mart on Battleground Avenue yesterday, I was sweating like cold bottle of water thrown into the fires of Hades. It was hot and we were located outside the store in the front. And to top it off, we were on the asphalt that is new enough to retain its rich black color. You know what that means… The temperature under the tent on the blacktop was probably around 115 to 120 degrees.

I drank at least a gallon of water and I didn’t have to take a leak until 11 o’clock that night. So the haircut is a welcome change.

I went ahead and made another appointment with Ron because if I don’t, I will neglect my hair until I can’t stand it anymore. And usually, 6 to 12 months will go by before I’m back in Ron’s chair. I will see him again in October.

Kristina’s cat, Sidney and I are getting along swimmingly now. She’s gotten used to having me around and she doesn’t hide as often. She likes to get on my lap and the other day, she went to sleep on my chest with her face on my neck. She’s a very sweet cat and she’s very vocal. She talks to me all the time. She’s so cute!

Through crooks and thieves, I’ve managed to acquire copies of Battlestar Galactica’s season 2.5. It’s not supposed to hit until September or October when season 3 breaks ground either on NBC or the Sci-Fi Channel. Now I don’t have to wait until the reruns that I haven’t seen are shown on Sci-Fi.

Ahhhhhh…. Instant gratification. I wish there were more of it in my life.

Again, I cannot tell you how rocking this show is. Yes, the original series from the late 70’s sucked, but this one will have you on the edge of your seat for most of the time. The original was made back when science fiction wasn’t taken seriously and therefore marketed to toy buying children.

But… Universal finally has it’s own cash cow with Battlestar Galactica. Paramount has always had the popular and long running series based on Star Trek.

Just go out and rent BSG. Please make sure to rent the mini-series first for important back story and set up for the series. The mini-series can be, admittedly, a little slow. But it is necessary.

Once you get into season one, you will thank me. The same way that I thank my friends Christine and Sean.
