I happened to find the complete seasons 1, 2, and 3 of Buffy The Vampire Slayer on DVD for a NICE 45 bucks total with shipping included. I also won this item after seeing it for the first time only minutes before. I was watching it like a crack addict spying on an unattended open purse. I kept waiting and waiting for someone to swoop in and snipe me. I refreshed that page every minute or less until I had won the auction.
I chatted with Joe Davis about it and he didn’t seem to share the same amount of enthusiasm. I don’t know. Maybe he was distracted with actual work or something?
Kristina didn’t seem to share the same reaction. My sister Tina didn’t really kick over any buckets either…
I think… That I had… One of those moments of clarity.
How bad am I?
I’m turning back flips over spending money on something that doesn’t fit into the big picture… Meanwhile… Someone… Somewhere… Could be giving their last dollar for something to eat.
Should I be ashamed of buying something that I enjoy?
Who was whispering in my ear? Was it a little demon telling me to give in to MY pleasure?
I don’t know. Devils and demons aren’t really into providing anyone any pleasure. Unless it’s a monkey’s paw. Buffy will last longer than 3 wishes and without any tricks. There will be no freshly buried Joyce Summers’ doing the dead chick shuffle and slide up the driveway at midnight.
Through thick and thin, Buffy and Green Acres will always be there to comfort me. When I need a laugh, a smile, a trip back in time, or purposefully twisting the minds of my nieces and nephews, Homicide: Life On The Streets and Seinfeld will be at hand.

I’m kind of bummed that Preston hates The Beverly Hillbillies. I’m just now thinking that he needs to see Get A Life. He doesn’t like the Star Trek series either.

You work and pay your bills and your taxes, and we all deserve our luxuries that we spend our dollars upon. Like Birkenstocks, books and CDs for me (though I have been trying to be good and check out books from the public library lately, because my f-ing house is going to cave in)...
As for my favorite current TV shows, I like How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, House, Lost, My Name is Earl, Desperate Housewives, Gray's Anatomy, and Survivor. I also admit to watching American Idol, partially for the "train wreck" factor. Old Christine may be growing on me.
My favorite show of all time is probably Seinfeld, which I have on DVD.
It's a good thing that I don't have HBO and Showtime! I borrowed and rented Sex and the City during/after the sixth season, and loved that, too.
Oh tv! One of my favorite things. If I had the money, more than half of my dvd collection would just be tv. I notice from looking at the list, that almost half of the shows on my list (and it's a long one) are on HBO. I guess it really is tv after all.

Oz - Sometimes it was hard to watch, and it could get hard to keep up with who was allied with/hating who from week to week, but I never missed an episode. Besides, what other show could make me sometimes not hate a cocky, ruthless, rapist White supremacist? (well, there is one more...) Plus, Ryan O'Reilly may quite possibly be my favorite tv character of all time.
Homicide - Thank goodness for that new Sleuth channel! No detective duo will ever top Bayliss and Pembleton.
Six Feet Under - Looked like I show I would like before i even saw it. Then when I tried to watch it I thought it sucked. Caught it again during s3 and was hooked.
Shows still on (or, at least, still being made) that I watch every week (or day), without fail.
Big Love - (Mormom fundamentalists fascinate me in the same way as Scientologists and the people in the weird church on the corner of Market and Dudley)
Rome - I have a Classics degree, so I have to like this, right? Too bad I can't get anyone else to watch it.
The Wire - The closest thing out there to Homicide. Plus it allows me to continue to continue to hate on Wangler from Oz.
Prison Break - My new favorite prison show. I like watching the plan unfold. (Scofield is the new O'Reilly and T-Bag > Schillinger) The only show on this list anyone else in my house even watches.
Law & Order:SVU - It's got Munch, Keller and Father Mukada. That new ADA chick = the worst. Wait, Ma watches this too.
Lost - I so want to know where it is all going. I just hope they tell me before I stop caring. The new show to rerun ratio is infuriating. I wish Jack would get eaten by a polar bear. Kate too. And Ana Lucia.
Survivor - Though I am a staunch reality tv hater. The first ep I watched, I hated this one cat so much I vowed to watch every show until he (Boston Rob!) got voted off. That is how it gets me every season.
The Office - I can't get anyone to watch this either! What's wrong with people?
The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and Real Time With Bill Maher - maybe when I get older I will start to watch the "real" news more often.
