Coldplay 'Viva La Vida'

It’s been a long time since I’ve written this… The title of each blog is my musical choice of the day. Finding my musical choice of the day involves a slight mental problem that many will identify as some sort of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. But for me, it’s a great way to find the lost treasures in my massive collection as well as revisiting why certain things are in there to begin with.

Anyway… Today’s choice is the new one from Coldplay. Since we had a few promos floating around the office, I grabbed one. People like them for some reason, so I wanted to hear them for myself.

Let me tell you… I’m not pleased with it. They’re like an even crappier U2.

So here’s the deal: If you want my copy of the new one from Coldplay… Just be the first one to email me at eugenebsims@yahoo.com and that boring little CD is all yours.

--I met up with an old friend/ex-girlfriend over the weekend. We were going to see Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers with Steve Winwood.

I have been looking forward to seeing both of the rock n’ roll legends in concert… But I wasn’t thrilled about seeing them in Raleigh at the Time Warner Cable Pavilion. I just don’t like those pavilions, because after the first 40 rows… There are no good seats. I always find myself watching the big screens and I can do that at home for much cheaper.

I had planned to meet up with Allyson early in the afternoon, but some people I work with decided to go back on their word and NOT help out our promotion staff on such a busy day. No biggie. It’s always expected. So I ended up doing it myself.

It was the first road trip for my Zune player with the FM transmitter thing used to hear the tunes on my radio. It worked beautifully!

I got to Allyson’s (in Durham) around 3pm, but I couldn’t get her motivated enough to roll on to Raleigh so we could do a little tailgating with Heather and her friends.

One other time, Allyson and I went to see KISS/Poison in Raleigh for one of those “shed shows”. The deal… She gets a free show, she drives because I drove from Greensboro, and I sleep on her couch. I thought it was established until she asked, “You’re gonna drive, aren’t you?”

It seems that Allyson can’t drive now when the skies turn dark… No biggie. We’ll take her car instead of Roxy, my truck. I’ll just drive on the way back.

“Can you drive a stick?” she asked.

I was surprised that she didn’t remember me winding up her cars in the past with my a NASCAR like fetish. But we took Roxy because I didn’t want to deal with that stick in the stop-and-go traffic that usually occurs when leaving a show.

As soon as I fire up my Zune, she’s complaining about it. “I should be able to pick out the music,” she said.

“Look. Your life is in my hands,” I said. “It’s important to keep the driver happy by letting them listen to what they want to, because it’s only a few inches across the yellow lines to certain death. And believe me, with some of the country crap you like, you should want to keep me happy.”

“I want to hear something I know,” she said.

“How do you find out about new music?” I asked. “How do you know that you wouldn’t want to listen to it again without hearing it for the first time?”

She backed down and the Zune kept the hits coming randomly… My personal choice.

On the next update, we’ll get into the meat of the evening.
