George Thorogood & The Destroyers 'Bad To The Bone'

Not only am I a wonderful and funny personality on the Rock 92 airwaves… I also work in the promotions department with Weather Dave. There are meetings to attend where everyone tosses around ideas until one of them sticks. I attend the regular brainstorming that takes place on Tuesday mornings.

Usually, these meetings are devoid of food. This Tuesday was different… A salesperson was kind enough to pickup a horse-choking load of muffins. Those muffins looked and smelled good. There were many different kinds of muffins. Like the singing sirens trying to get me to crash my non-sugar ship upon the rocks… I resisted them with no problem… I knew those babies were loaded with sugar and I’m doing very well with my sugar reduction, thank you very much.

As the meeting progressed, the salesperson that brought in the muffins unwrapped one to eat. I watched as she broke off a piece of the muffin that was about the size of a cinderblock. Then she did the strangest thing that I had ever seen…

You know, silly me, I would have thought that she tore off a small piece of muffin to put into her mouth. It would have looked very unsavory if she placed the cinderblock muffin up to her face to take a bite. As the kids would say, that would have been uncool. What she did was this…

She broke off the piece and started kneading it between all the fingers on both of her hands. She would roll it around and around while pressing the muffin chunk back into its previous dough-like state. I’ve seen a butt-load of nature programs in my life and she reminded me of a raccoon at a stream washing its hands and food. Over and over again, wash and wash. But this person was pressing and rolling until the muffin was a chunk of Play-Doh. All the while, she would be throwing out some ideas while rolling that gunk between all her fingers. And finally, she ate it.

Then she started the process all over again with another chunk of muffin.

I don’t know why I found it so odd, but I did.

--This Saturday night (September 29th), I will be one of the Emcees during the “Rock Out to Knockout ALS” event at Ziggy’s in Winston-Salem. ALS is also known as Lou Gerhig’s Disease. “Rock Out to Knockout ALS” is my current number one MySpace friend for the week. Drop by the page and check out what’s going on this coming Saturday night. It kicks off at 7pm. I’d love to see you there to support this awesome charitable event. This fund raiser is in memory of Mark Frederick Hamilton. He died on March 14th of this year.

This benefit concert is raising money and awareness for the Jim “Catfish” Hunter ALS Chapter in North Carolina.
