The Byrds ‘There Is A Season’ 2 hour radio special

I am fashionably challenged. I have no sense of style when it comes to clothing. If I can wear it and it covers my ass from the eyes of the rest of the world, I really don’t care how it looks. I’ve only learned how to properly match up clothes by color within the last decade. And that’s probably one of the reasons that I wear black. It goes with everything. It’s pretty hard to screw up black.

Over the years, a particular woman has taken it upon herself to help me purchase clothing and spice up my wardrobe with a little style. Her name is Christine and she frequently leaves comments on my blog. We’ve known each other since the early 90’s when we both worked for the Capitol Records distribution center that used to be in Greensboro. Christine lives to shop and she does it very well.

Christine and I met up around 11am last Friday and hit Friendly Center. Our first stop was the Old Navy Store and with powers like a drug-sniffing canine, she managed to find a cache of sale items. And on top of the sale price, they were taking an additional 50% off at the register.

Christine was leafing through all the items with intense purpose. It was a warm day with temperatures near 80 and she had broken a sweat. It was nearly an orgasmic experience for her. I walked out of there with 11 shirts for $38 that should have totaled at least $175. We both got what we wanted. I got a great deal with new clothing and Christine got her jollies by shopping like a woman possessed.

After that I wanted to quiet down the hunger in my belly and I suggested that we go somewhere and have lunch. She suggested Kyoto Fantasy Express. Of course, I had to ask a few questions because I’m a very finicky eater. But she calmed my fears and we hit it.

We both got the Steak Bowl that consisted of steak, mushrooms (new on my “To Eat List”), and fried rice. Thankfully, Japanese fried rice is a little different from the Chinese version… There are no vegetables.

I am now a HUGE fan of Kyoto Express! I couldn’t even finish my Steak Bowl because I was about to pop wide open. It was a very filling meal.

When working an afternoon gig with DJ Coup Delicious and Mitch Wheeler on the following day, Mitch and I stopped by Kyoto for a little something something. We both got Jr. Steak Bowls and let me tell you… If I go to the same place twice in as many days… I love it!

After Christine and I ate, we waddled over to Rack Room Shoes for some new dress shoes for me. I needed a black pair. I have enough fashion sense to know that my brown shoes do not go with all black clothing. I’ve been meaning to get a pair of black dress shoes for over a month, but we couldn’t get our schedules to match up. I ended up with a great pair of shoes and another brown pair for half-price.

The girl can shop!

Then we rode over to Burlington Coat Factory to get me a new jacket. The only jacket that I own is blue and a left over from my Office Supply delivery days. It’s starting to show it’s age and it’s time to retire the blue jacket to only going out for work. Christine found the perfect jacket with the perfect price tag of $25!

Our day was done and I was quite pleased with the day’s haul.

I’m working on my viewing habits with both the taped television shows and Netflix. And yesterday, I managed to get the movie Little Man watched and mailed back to the fine folks at Netflix.

I put in the DVD thinking that Little Man would easily fail my 20 minute test (if I don’t like it within 20 minutes, it’s gone). But it didn’t fail. Although it was filled with lame, sophomoric humor… I enjoyed it. I gave it 3 stars on Netflix.

Do you recall the entry where I flipped out on the day’s date mentioned on Heroes? I also flip out on seeing my birthday used on a show or movie.

Well… I got quite a surprise the other day when I was watching an episode of Six Feet Under. The mother, Ruth Fisher, was having a drug-induced dream where she ran in to her departed husband in the woods. He opened up the hood of the hearse and Ruth moved the leafy vegetation to reveal her tombstone. The character shares the same birthday as me. Her birth date was carved into the stone without a death date.

For some crazy reason, I love that kind of crap.

Just doing my part to save the world from bad fashion. Now get rid of those ugly black/white camo pants before I have to write you a citation.
