Jerry Lee Lewis ‘Last Man Standing’

I’ve managed to watch disc one of season one of Six Feet Under and so far, I’m not all that impressed. The father of the family is killed off in the first episode and his wife and offspring manage to see him from time to time. They even chat with dearly departed Dad.

I don’t know if this trend will continue, but so far, nothing on this show is grabbing me. I had high hopes since Carolyn (frequent reader of this here blog) suggested it many moons ago. So far the show is averaging a 3 out of 5 stars and therefore worth the effort. But if it doesn’t pick up, I may not watch season 2 of Six Feet Under.

And since I’ve been so busy, my Netflix discs have been backing up… But that’s not the only logjam that I’m experiencing. I have 14 VHS tapes with hours and hours of recorded television shows on them. Everything from WWE Raw to my beloved Veronica Mars have been stacking up and waiting until I can get to them.

The only thing that I’m making time for is Battlestar Galactica. I’m up to date with that show because it’s my current favorite and cannot be missed. Every episode gives me great satisfaction. If it were a woman, I’d marry it.

Wait a minute… Does that sound super-geeky?

During the last update, I’ve managed to watch an episode of Nip/Tuck from September 25th, the premiere of Men In Trees, and the premiere of Heroes.

Nip/Tuck seems to be better this season and that’s good news. It’s been lacking something over the last two seasons. So far, I’m pleased. The 9/25 episode was really filled with the “S” word. It seems that the writers went out of their way to work in as many “S” words as they could.

I wasn’t knocked over by Men In Trees. It seems like a bit of a rip-off of Northern Exposure except that I haven’t really seen any quirky and weird folks like the ones that inhabit Cicely, Alaska. I will keep watching because there’s something that’s pulling me into it. I haven’t quite figured out what that something is, but as soon as I find out, I’ll tell you.

Heroes is the closest thing to a science-fiction series on network television this year. So I guess NBC is sticking their necks out again with this “ordinary humans become super heroes” kind of show.

Right out of the gate, the show has grabbed me. There are folks around the globe experiencing changes and abilities. One Japanese cat can teleport by bending time and space. A cheerleader who has nigh-invulnerability. There’s a politician that can fly and a painter who paints scenes of events that will happen in the future.

It has something to do with a dead professor from India that believes in the evolutionary changes that can occur with humans and were led to believe that the professor had something to speed along those changes.

And if that weren’t enough, we find out that a secret agent type is the adoptive father of the cheerleader who is going through the changes.

There’s also a woman who keeps seeing herself in the mirror. At one point, she wakes up to find mobsters that were tightening the screws, dead and scattered around the room. When she looks in the mirror, her reflection has her index finger pressed against her lips signaling her to keep her stinking trap shut.

I’m guessing that she’ll become the “super villain” in the series.

Heroes shows great promise. It shows like a comic book in motion and I can’t wait to catch up with it.

I was saddened to see Smith biting the dust so soon. I have a couple of episodes on tape and I will watch them. Who knows? Perhaps CBS will bring the show back. For some reason, I think it has great possibilities.

The first season of Six Feet Under was the best season. There were highlights from the other seasons, but the first season was solid. When you catch up on your other shows, it might be worth it to at least watch the last half of the final season of Six Feet Under. You might like how the show ties it all up and ends it. Or you might not.

Sorry, but no chance of a Smith resurrection - it's dead. The sets have been torn down.

I agree about six feet under. Hang in there with it. Also, you may want to think about DVR or Tivo. VHS tapes?? 14 of them??? You could be saving room in your entertainment center for your cat!!

I must agree with the rest of the posts about Six Feet Under. When I first heard about it, I thought I'd be all over it... it looked right up my alley. But when I tried to watch it, I just couldn't get into it for some reason. Then one day during Season 3, I sat down to watch it while I waited for something else to come on (Sopranos or Oz, one of them) and was hooked. While I don't really care much about the latest movie offerings, HBO consistently produces some of the best tv shows out there.
I don't know how much money/time it will save you, but I've got the first season of SFU on DVD, so if you want to free up some NetFlix spots, you can borrow my set. I've also got 3 and 5 on tape (HBOs dvds are notoriously expensive, so until I spot a deal, I just tape them in chunks off of On Demand) so, if you ever want to check any of that out, just let me know. I've got whole seasons of most of the recent shows, so if you ever want to check any of them out, just let me know.
Also, on an unrelated note: what was going on at the station this morning? Maybe it's the (ex-) wrestling fan in me, but I am leaning towards "fake, manufactured drama." I hung on as long as I could, but by 9:00 it was time to hit the sack.

To continue on the unrelated note...WTF?

I vote for manufactured drama, too. Especially since the previously banned Eugene was called back to the station.

High drama indeed. I vote that they leave Dave and Goat to co-host and take Eugene to Cancun instead. I know how much he loves the sand.

Manufactured drama ... it had me going but my husband said right off the bat it was fake.

  7. Yo!,

Yes, I still use VHS tapes. I haven't been won over to the DVR's yet. I tend to hold onto old technologies longer than I should. And I have a lurking fear about recording all the shows on the DVR and when I can watch, the damn thing will crash on me. VHS is just a little more reliable to me.

And for the record, the cat isn't allowed near electronic equipment. Hair and dander will shorten the life span of my old technological wonders.

But, in all fairness, I'm moving towards a DVR. I just haven't been pushed hard enough yet.

  8. I cannot comment on the actions taken by Goat Boy or Chris Kelly. All I know is... They ban me from the show for a comment that wasn't even remotely perverted, but when they need someone, they come to me.

They know that the Self Proclaimed Bad Boy can get it done!

  9. Thanks Bebo!

As for the Cancun trip... Yeah, I don't care for beachy locations, BUT... All alcoholic drinks are included in the trip. That alone would make it awesome for me. My liver would have to take a separate flight back.

  10. Manufactured drama, Joan???

If it's so manufactured, why am I working such long hours?

I'm on the air at midnight and I'm here until Noon or later. And believe me, I'm not one for working long hours.

I said my husband said it was fake. I know 98.7 did a whole fake thing about the dj's taking over programing then changing it to Simon. Whatever - it's causing drama. congratulations on your blog being voted best.

"I cannot comment on the actions..." = "Tune in tomorrow to see what happens next!"

I'm not usually up at that hour, so when it all comes to an end, you will have to post an update for those who don't rise early enough/stay up late enough to hear how it all turns out. I tried to make it to the bonus hour to see who was covering that last night, but I couldn't make it. Has your voice been heard on the air since you've been "covering for Goat Boy"?
