Blondie ‘Eat To The Beat’

As I’m writing this, I’m watching The Beverly Hillbillies on Superstation WGN. The Beverly Hillbillies is one of my all time favorite shows and WGN is currently showing the episodes where they go to England because a distant relative of Uncle Jed’s has died.

Those episodes are classic and back in the day when the cast went across the pond; the folks of merry ol’ England had a reaction much like the Americans greeting The Beatles.

One of my favorite scenes from those first England episodes is when Jethro talks to the driver of the limousine using what he thinks is a microphone. As it turns out, he’s holding the cigarette lighter and he tells the driver… “Hey! Your microphone’s getting hot!”

I laugh like a maniac every time!

Since Kim wanted it, she’s got it… ECW. Extreme Championship Wrestling can be found on Sci-Fi Tuesday nights at 10.

There’s a lot going on with this show and it seems that Vince McMahon is getting his hands dirty with the production of this show. It seems that the ECW isn’t up to snuff for him.

To me, now that McMahon is involved, it’s only a matter of time when this Phoenix returns to ash. And to top it off, two of their top stars were recently popped for speeding by the Ohio State Patrol. When the trooper came up to the car they rolled the window down to show license and registration. And in Cheech & Chong fashion, marijuana smoke rolled out of the car like a smoke machine doing overtime for the Doobie Brothers.

Rob Van Dam and the suicidal, homicidal, genocidal Sabu were busted.

The Emmy nominations were announced early this morning and I was more than pleasantly surprised to see that Jane Kaczmarek was nominated for Best Actress in a comedy series. COOL!

I feel that she won’t win, but it’s great that she and the show are getting a little recognition now that it’s been cancelled. I can’t help but hope that one of my favorite shows will get that eighth Emmy. You can catch the reruns on Fox 8 12:30am. Set those VCR’s and DVR’s.

I saw some great news on Amazon the other day concerning another one of my favorite shows, The Tick. They’re releasing season one on DVD at the end of August and I couldn’t be happier. A lot of fans of The Tick have been patiently waiting for this release on DVD.

The Tick originally ran on Fox Kids back in the early to mid 90’s. The show was aimed at kids, but the humor is more for adults. It’s a great parody attacking the world of superheroes. Try it, you’ll like it.

Here are some shows that I’ve been waiting for on DVD: Get A Life, The Untouchables, Invaders, Newhart, and WKRP In Cincinnati.

What are the ones you’re looking for?

I finally finished off the last season of 24 and I was a little disappointed with the ending and then it smacked me one. And that smack pleased me when I saw the Chinese had kidnapped Jack Bauer and there’s no telling what they’re going to do with him when the next season kicks off in January.

Oooooo… I can’t wait, dammit (Bauer says “dammit” a lot and makes for a good drinking game like “Hi Bob!” on The Bob Newhart Show).

How did you spend your 4th of July?

I meant to catch Benjomatic in downtown Greensboro, but I ended up working a pool party gig with Coup Delicious and Triad DJ Service. I couldn’t pass up the chance to make a little extra scratch.

I didn’t care about missing any fireworks because I have never cared for that stuff. I prefer my explosives sharing the stage with rock n’ roll bands like KISS.

But for some crazy reason, I’ve always dated girls that care about seeing the Fourth of July fireworks. And that’s the good thing about being single; I haven’t been with the thousands of people that turn out for those displays in the last few years.

Perhaps I should just settle into the “bachelor for life” because it’s not so bad… No more going to see Fourth of July fireworks

I was disappointed with the ending of '24' as well, but it was *because* of the Chinese kidnapping. The writers of '24' play fast and loose with their real-time format all the time - for example, it never takes anyone more than 15 minutes to get anywhere in L.A. and nobody ever gets stuck in hopeless gridlock. Yeah, that's realistic. But I can live with it, so I roll my eyes a little and move on.

This time, I just had to call "Bullshit!" long and loud. The scene on the Chinese freighter took place 11 "real-time" minutes after Jack's kidnapping. So we're supposed to believe that Jack was captured by the Chinese and transported through L.A. to this ship. The bad guy Chinese official was notified and able to meet them on the ship. The ship set sail and made it into open waters. And Jack was beaten so badly he was asking to be killed. All in the space of 11 minutes.

Yeah. Right. I'll say it again - Bullshit!

The producers are keeping a tight lid on next year's story, but I've heard that it won't involve Jack's escape from China. One of the bigwigs involved with the show was quoted as saying that it just couldn't work due to the "real time" format. Just getting back to the U.S would take 14 of the 24 hours, not leaving much time for Jack to save the world. So I'm guessing next season will be another fast forward several months or years after Jack's harrowing escape.

Now that's some good blog service right there!
I just wanted to say that ECW was managing to improve a tiny bit, but now it looks like it is all downhill again. First McMahon gets his hands involved.. isn't he ruining enough wrestling shows already? Then Angle takes a break (word is he was suspended, but no one knows why.) And then RVD and Sabu go and get busted? What's next?

This is right up there with that time a few years back when Brock and Goldberg both left. Yeah, neither of them was much to get excited about, but it seemed like right after that about 10 guys were off tv for one reason or another. It's the same reason Smackdown sucks now -- bad timing of injuries, deaths, suspensions and people just taking time off. It's things like this that make me wish for the end of the brand extension. But then I realize that would lead to me having to endure more of DX, Edge/Cena, Rey/Mark Henry, Diva Search and all of that mess at the expense of things I actually care about (basically just the IC division. There is some real talent there, if only they would use them right)

Also, you will be happy to know that as of now, I have no Busches in my racing stable this week. I still have one pick left, but I have a feeling Ma's gonna take Kyle, leaving me Busch free for perhaps the first time this season.
