Hobex ‘U Ready Man?’

Saturday night, Marcia Gan and I did something together for the first time. We sat in Suite 213 at the Greensboro Grasshoppers game.

I had been to a couple of games last year, but never in the Suite.

I picked Marcia up around 6pm and she didn’t understand why I wanted to get there so early. The main reason… I wanted find a parking spot without paying for it.

Yeah, I’m cheap. I do not believe in paying a parking fee for anything. Of course, there are a lot of times that I have no choice. But, when I have a downtown filled with parking spots when I don’t have to use a parking meter… I ain’t paying for parking.

The second reason… To get a jump on the beer and get some alcohol flowing along with corpuscles and oxygen in the bloodstream. I can get a little buzz and waste it away before I get behind the wheel later on.

Marcia was sensible dressed for the evening, but I asked if she was going to take a jacket because it was going to get a little chilly. She was, but I had to ask her if she was going to change her shoes. Take a look… She was wearing “girly” shoes without regard to warmth.

I took this picture of Marcia’s feet on the sly. I’m sure those of you with foot fetishes will dig it.

Here’s Marcia enjoying a delicious hot dog. Feel free to make your own joke here.

After we downed our dogs, we took our beers up to Suite 213 to check things out there. We opened up the door and were surprised to find a room with a counter complete with a sink. There was even a television equipped with cable hookup! There were a few pieces of furniture too! The teenager in me screamed, “This is a great place for a make-out party!”

It was cool! Marcia checked the mini-fridge for any stray beer and I thought to myself… “Hmmmm… She’s checking for free beer… I should propose to her.”

Here’s Marcia drinking one of the first of many beers of the evening…

After we spent some time checking out the Suite and catching up on each other’s lives, we hit the bricks and checked out the rest of First Horizon Park. Most notably, the Grandstand where they have a bar. Walking around the park takes some time and energy therefore it was time for another adult beverage.

We walked up to check out the view from that end of the stadium and Marcia quizzed me on which team had a hit. I used my superior observational skills and noticed that the Hoppers were at bat and said, “I think West Virginia had the hit.”

Some cat in front of us informed Marcia and I that West Virginia got “2 to the gap”.

I played baseball when I was kid and even I didn’t have a clue as to what he was talking about. I thought it was a gynecological term. As it turned out, a ball dropped between fielders and infielders allowing the batter to get to second base.

We met Tripper and Mike Klein from our sister station 1075 KZL walking around the park and unfortunately, we didn’t have any more Suite tix to get them into our little party. We never saw them again that night. I think Mike was a little dejected.

We got back to the Suite and Lisa Rose was there with her kids. Marcia and I used to work with Lisa.

Marcia Gan and Lisa hang out often and it was cool to hang with her once again. And for some weird reason, Lisa’s son Luke was happy to see me. Why? I don’t know.

Here’s a pic of Lisa Rose (on left) and Dick Broadcasting Sales Rep, Laura Lloyd hanging out with the YMCA Turtle and Guilford the Grasshopper.

I realize that I’m becoming an old man with each passing year and yet things amaze me every day.

How do kids know the YMCA song and dance?

You know… The Village People song?

Here’s a pic of the kids singing and dancing along with ‘YMCA’.

Then later on, the mascot came back to visit the kids in the Suite. The noise they made rivaled anything that Santa Claus would be capable of achieving with an appearance. Here’s a pic of them being surprised.

And here’s a group shot of the kids and all of the mascots once the flash flood of excitement had subsided.

I also got to hang with weeknight guy Neil Matson and got to know him a little better. He was there with his wife and friends. Here’s a candid shot that I took of them. The friend leaned over to Neil’s wife and whispered, “Does your husband always sit like that?”

I kept track of all of the right-handers at bat. Because we were sitting in foul-zone for those batters. You gotta keep up with the action or you’ll get popped with one of those hardball jokers when you least expect it. And I personally don’t dig hanging out at the Emergency Room at Wesley Long.

After the game, we walked to the Grandstand gate to get out and head to the Left Field Tavern. The damn thing was locked up, but I checked the loading dock and someone was being let out there. I said that we just wanted out to hit the Left Field Tavern and the guy was kind enough agree to our request.

We met up with Donnie and Nancy, the owners of the Left Field Tavern and Marcia enjoyed her first visit to one of my favorite drinking joints in Greensboro.

After a few rounds, Nancy felt it necessary to administer a field sobriety test to Marcia. Here’s a pic of a confused Marcia trying to comprehend the test.

All in all, we both had a wonderful time and we’re both looking forward to getting tickets in the Suite someday soon.
